Artcebu Sponsors Bathalad Night POSTED AT 04:53 AM in balita ![]() There was a poem about the mobile phone culture, another about the omniscience of technology in our daily lives; there was an ode to a dead comrade, a song about love unrequited, and a tale of sex---and the morning after. All in all, the Bantawan sa Bathalad, "Mga Garay ug Alampat" was successful in showcasing the Cebuano language, through verse and lyric. The "Bantawan sa Bathalad," was initiated by the Cebuano poetry group, Bathalad, or "Bathalan-ong Halad sa Dagang (Divine Gift of theQuill)." This show was the latest in a series of poetry readings, beginning in August 2005, and features many poets, fictionists and literary luminaries of Cebu. Anything goes, beer in hand, tongue in cheek; the only concession being, that poems to be read, must be written in Cebuano. The Bantawan is a regular monthly poetry, and has a featured poetfor a particular month. For the month of June, photographer-columnist-poet, Gerard Pareja, regaled fellow wordsmiths and guests to a few of his poems. Indeed, the "Bantawan" is a venue not only for the appreciation of Cebuano poetry, it is also a way for people to become aware of the richness of one's language, and the uniqueness of one's culture. See you next month... |
